A source behind every story.
16 source connections. Different perspectives, with their dates and limits in view.
Original observations and short report summaries are downloaded into a local cache. Each report links to its original source. EarthCurrent adds formatting and general context; it has not independently verified every source claim.
EMSC
ConnectedLatest 5,000 M2.5+ reports returned from the past 30 days. This bounded catalog can be truncated in busy periods. Origin, source update, estimated epicenter and positive source depth are retained. EMSC and USGS can report the same earthquake; counts are catalog reports, not unique events.

GeoNet
ConnectedLatest available 100 New Zealand region earthquakes, including smaller magnitudes. Only valid, non-deleted dated point records are imported. This endpoint supplies origin time without a revision timestamp. Catalogs overlap; these are not independent confirmations or a complete global catalog.

ConnectedUp to 100 recently updated emergency listings with source start dates within 90 days. Relevant disaster and epidemic reports are retained; conflict/displacement reports require explicit conflict wording. Country names remain country references without invented points. Humanitarian summaries can overlap other agencies and are not independently verified.

ConnectedAtlantic basin tropical outlooks and advisories with the publisher’s date and original wording. Forecast periods belong to the dated source. An empty active-storm bulletin is valid and never becomes a fabricated cyclone or a global all-clear.

NASA EONET
ConnectedNASA’s curated natural-event catalog: up to 200 open entries returned for the past 30 days. We map the latest valid, dated point and retain reported storm positions as a path, not a forecast. Open status is a catalog flag, not proof of current local conditions. Source coverage varies, and reports can overlap GDACS. Polygon-only entries remain outside this point layer.

Country disease measurements
WHO FluNet and fluID supply completed weekly influenza, RSV, rhinovirus, influenza-like illness and acute respiratory infection measurements. WHO COVID-19 surveillance supplies weekly reported cases. These are separate units and reporting systems, not counts of every infected resident or everyone with a common cold. The panel downloads a bounded 16-week reporting window and preserves missing values, retrospective corrections and source-stream labels.

GeoNames provides the ISO country-code reference used to join WHO reporting areas to the existing Natural Earth map. A country-level measurement does not establish conditions in a particular city.
Annual world indicators
32 indicators cover economic growth, debt, prices, employment, population, births and deaths, energy and living conditions. Annual measurements retain their actual reporting years. Completed-year source series can include estimates and revisions. World aggregates come from the publisher; country figures are not summed to invent totals.
World Bank World Development Indicators
ConnectedGDP, growth, inflation, unemployment, reserves, external debt, remittances, population, demographics, energy, internet, water, sanitation and poverty. Coverage and aggregate methods differ by indicator.

September 2025 reference · 2024 dataManually reviewed public/private nonfinancial-sector debt totals from the IMF release of 17 September 2025. A fixed dated reference; not an automatically refreshed debt counter.
September 2025 edition · 2024 reporting year · reviewed reference
Original definitions & sourceAnnual birth/death quantities are rounded estimates derived from same-year crude rates and population. They are not registrations or real-time counters. The 2024 world debt reference excludes financial-sector debt, while country government debt is a different measure. Poverty uses the World Bank’s $3/day line at 2021 PPP. Missing observations, world aggregates and old reporting years remain explicit.
Weather, climate and air-quality models
The weather map is coarse interpolated model context. Local forecast uses Open-Meteo models for the selected point: current estimates, hourly temperature and precipitation probabilities, and seven daily outlooks. CAMS air-quality estimates are delivered through Open-Meteo with pollutant units and source time. Model output can differ from local measurements and is not a guarantee of future conditions.
Open-Meteo weather documentation
The ENSO view combines NOAA PSL’s monthly Niño 3.4 index (with its stated baseline) and an ocean-only NOAA OISST v2.1 daily anomaly field sampled at 1°. The final daily analysis can lag current conditions; its own date and 1971–2000 baseline are shown separately. EarthCurrent does not provide earthquake or conflict predictions.
Publisher reporting and images
The News tab reads public RSS feeds from BBC News, The Guardian and Al Jazeera. Cards link to the publisher and show its supplied headline, short summary, date and thumbnail where available. These articles are not automatically geocoded. Event details may include an original source image and clearly labelled topic or location keyword matches, which can describe different events.
Where the gaps remain
ACLED requires account access and ReliefWeb requires an approved API app name. Those connections are not active. Development uses the public sources available now; production permissions will be handled before a public release.
Geography with perspective
The self-hosted map uses Natural Earth geometry. Dashed boundaries identify disputed areas. Country summaries use labeled representative points. Reports without reliable geography stay in the feed without a fabricated coordinate.
A check is not a new observation
A source can be reachable while its latest assessment is weeks old. We show source publication, reporting period, first import, revisions and last successful check separately. Failed refreshes retain their last successful data with a visible source status.
